Join us on October 19 for the kick off to Season 4 of Team Up! where we will hear about the work that is happening around patient perspectives on the communication of team-based care. Members from UBC Innovation Support Unit, along with patient partners will share their experiences and highlight some key learnings from their current learning cycle, with the goal to inform patient communications around primary care transformation and team-based care.
1. Share learnings and insights from the learning cycle that examined the patient perspective around the communication of team-based care to the public. Patients share their experiences and recommendations.
2. Reflect on the importance of patient communication, in the context of change and system transformation.
3. Discuss how this can be applied to practice in communicating team-based care to patients at both the clinic and system level.
Layton Engwer has been involved in the evolution of PCNs and UPCCs since 2018. He has brought the voice of patients to provincial, to regional, and to local tables. He is also the chair of the provincial Primary Care Patient Group. Layton brings his family’s experiences, as consumers care from many diverse sources together to the benefit of family members, with his life experiences having worked within the health systems across the country.
He has also dabbled in raising chickens and turkeys, living in a rural setting outside Victoria and thoroughly loves the magic that zipping up the red suit in December brings.
Tlell Elviss (she/her) (MA) is the Administration and Communications Lead with the Innovation Support Unit in the Department of Family Practice. She is a settler who gratefully lives and works from the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the K’ómoks First Nation. In 2021, she made a big career leap from a 15-year career in student affairs designing and developing policies, programs, and practices which facilitate student learning, into the healthcare space. She brought to the ISU her background in project management, organizational development, team development, and stakeholder engagement. She is interested in healthcare as a learning system and how we can create greater justice, equity, and inclusion within healthcare.
Jami Brown joined Health Quality BC in February 2016, where she brings her passion for working with people to her role as an Engagement Leader. Prior to joining the Council, she led the communications and engagement strategy for the largest provider of seniors housing in British Columbia. Before that, she spent 10 years at Fraser Health leading a multidisciplinary team focused on creating healthier communities.
Throughout her career, Jami has enthusiastically supported doing everything she can to draw on the richness of our collective experiences to build a health care system that works for everyone.
Jami holds a Master of Arts in Professional Communication from Royal Roads University, a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from Western Washington University, and is a certified trainer in Public Participation and LEAN Healthcare.
